Un Jardin Apres La Mousson, inspired by Hermès Un Jardin après la Mousson (2008)

Après la Mousson smells like rain-soaked greenery with spice in it. Ginger and white ginger lily give a fresh, slightly peppery bite, while cardamom and coriander add an aromatic, seed-like dryness. Water notes run through everything, and many wearers pick up something close to cut melon in that wet freshness. Vetiver at the base, a grassy root with an earthy edge, keeps the whole thing from floating away.

About the original

Jean-Claude Ellena created Un Jardin après la Mousson for Hermès in 2008, the fourth scent in the house's garden series. Its inspiration was Kerala, in southern India, after the monsoon rains. Hermès named butterfly ginger, cardamom and coriander as its main ingredients. The brand's own product page now states that it is no longer available, and it is missing from the current garden collection, which still lists seven other Jardins.

Who it suits

It suits hot days and anyone, of any gender, who likes a scent that feels like air and water rather than perfume. The effect is sheer and calm. It may feel too thin for someone who reaches for dense, sweet or ambery perfumes.

Ginger and white ginger lily open it with a cool, spicy freshness, lifted by citrus and a little pepper.

Cardamom and coriander take over in the heart, aromatic and dry, with water notes and light floral accents keeping it translucent.

It ends on vetiver, green and faintly earthy, sitting close to the skin.

Is Hermès Un Jardin après la Mousson discontinued?

Yes. Hermès's own product page says it is no longer available, and it has gone from the garden collection.

Does it smell like melon?

There is no melon note listed. The combination of water notes and ginger lily gives a wet, fruity freshness that many people describe as melon-like.
