Oriental Oud

Oriental Oud, inspired by Versace pour Femme Oud Oriental (2013)

Oud Oriental opens with rose and saffron, the saffron giving a dry, slightly metallic spice. Freesia lightens the start a little. Heliotrope, which smells of almond and powder, joins violet and Indonesian patchouli in the heart, so the rose takes on a cosmetic softness. The base is an oud accord: a blend built to suggest agarwood, here with a leathery character, smoothed by sandalwood and vanilla.

About the original

Versace released pour Femme Oud Oriental in its Italian boutiques in December 2013, with wider distribution in 2014. It was the women's counterpart to Versace pour Homme Oud Noir from the same year. Versace presented it as a seductive oriental. The correct name is Oud Oriental; there is no Versace scent called Oriental Oud. We have not been able to confirm whether Versace still produces it.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Versace stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Rose and oud pairings are the obvious point of comparison, though this one is more powdery than smoky. Leather and saffron give it a dark edge, and the vanilla keeps it rounded. Wearers who avoid leather notes or heavy powder may find it too dense.

Heliotrope and violet turn the middle powdery and almond-like, while patchouli adds an earthy depth beneath the rose.

The finish is leathery oud, sandalwood and vanilla: dark and resinous, with enough sweetness to stay smooth.

Is this Oud Oriental or Oud Noir?

This is the women's Oud Oriental. Oud Noir is the men's counterpart from 2013 and a different scent.

Is Versace Oud Oriental still made?

We have not been able to confirm whether Versace still produces it.

Does it smell strongly of oud?
