Allure Sensuelle, inspired by Chanel Allure Sensuelle Eau de Parfum (2005)

Where the original Allure aims for balance, Sensuelle leans into shadow. Peach arrives first, ripe and rounded, sharpened by pink pepper and mandarin. Rose follows with powdery iris, and patchouli runs underneath from the very start, giving the fruit an earthy depth. Chanel's own description points to May rose, frankincense and amber patchouli, which explains the resinous glow of the later stages.

About the original

Jacques Polge created Allure Sensuelle in 2005 as a flanker to Allure, and an eau de toilette followed a year later. A perfume writer marking its twentieth anniversary called it a 'fruitchouli' classic, for its pairing of ripe fruit with patchouli. Chanel still sells the eau de parfum; in the US it is marked as an exclusive on the brand's own site.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Chanel stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Patchouli decides whether this works for you, because it is present from the first spray to the drydown. With peach and amber around it, the effect is rich and powdery rather than fresh. A patchouli sceptic will notice it immediately.

Peach and mandarin open it, with pink pepper adding a small prickle and patchouli already audible beneath.

The heart pairs Turkish and Bulgarian rose with iris and jasmine, plus a dried-fruit nuance that keeps the peach theme going.

Later it rests on patchouli and amber, with labdanum, vanilla, sandalwood and a little lavender, turning resinous and powdery.

How is Allure Sensuelle different from Allure?

Allure is the fresher of the two, a citrus floral balanced over vanilla. Sensuelle is darker: peach and rose over a pronounced patchouli and amber base.

Is Allure Sensuelle still made?

Yes. Chanel still sells the eau de parfum, which in the US is listed as an exclusive on its own website.
