Orris Wakan

Orris Wakan, inspired by Amouage Attar Orris Wakan (2022)

Orris butter, a dense extract of iris root, smells powdery and faintly earthy, like cool soil and cosmetic powder at once. Here it sits on milky sandalwood, which gives the iris a rounded, almost lactic texture. White musks wrap the finish. With only three listed notes, the composition changes little; it simply grows more cushioned as it settles.

About the original

Amouage announced Orris Wakan in March 2022 as one of six attars, sold as 12 ml of pure oil alongside Incense Rori, Oud Ulya, Rose Aqor, Saffron Hamra and Vanilla Barka. Julien Rasquinet created it, and the brand tied it to the apricot orchards of Wakan in Oman. One fragrance reference dates it to 2021, possibly from an earlier Middle East release. It no longer appears in the attar range on Amouage's European or US sites, where the current attars carry newer names such as Tonka Misfah and Santal Sohar.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Amouage stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Iris enthusiasts are the obvious audience, particularly those who find many iris scents too austere. Powder is central to the character, so a buyer who dislikes cosmetic, make-up-bag notes should sample first.

Is Amouage Orris Wakan discontinued?

It no longer appears in Amouage's attar range on the brand's European or US sites, and its old product page no longer works. We have found no statement from Amouage about it.

Was Orris Wakan ever an eau de parfum?

No. Amouage made it only as a 12 ml attar of pure oil. Our version is an eau de parfum inspired by that attar.

Do you make other attars from the same collection?

Yes, we make versions inspired by Saffron Hamra and Vanilla Barka, both launched with Orris Wakan in 2022.

Is Amouage Orris Wakan coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Amouage that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
