White Suede

White Suede, inspired by Tom Ford White Suede (2009)

Saffron and thyme open briefly, herbal and lightly spiced, with the green, tea-like note of mate behind them. The rose that follows is velvety rather than dewy, and it quickly blends into a suede accord that smells supple instead of tanned. Olibanum (frankincense) adds a dry, slightly peppery resin, and the base is a pale laundry-like musk with amber underneath.

About the original

White Suede arrived in autumn 2009 as one of four scents in Tom Ford's White Musk Collection, alongside Urban Musk, Jasmine Musk and Musk Pure. Today it is listed in the Private Blend line. The original note list was broader, adding Bulgarian rose, lily-of-the-valley, amber and sandalwood, and the brand's current copy still mentions rose and amber. The sources we checked do not credit a perfumer for White Suede.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Tom Ford stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Musk lovers are the natural audience: the suede here is clean and fabric-like rather than dark or animalic. Tom Ford sells it as unisex. One early reviewer found the musk synthetic-smelling, and since that musk is the core of the scent, a dislike of laundry-type musks matters here.

Is White Suede a leather scent?

Only partly. The suede and white leather notes are smooth and clean, and musk does most of the work, so it reads cleaner and smoother than a smoky leather.

Is White Suede related to White Patchouli?

No. White Suede came from the 2009 White Musk Collection and is its own scent, separate from Tom Ford's White Patchouli, which we also make.
