Orris & Sandalwood Limited Edition, inspired by Jo Malone London Orris & Sandalwood Cologne Intense (2016)

Orris, made from the dried root of the iris, gives this scent its cool, powdery centre, and violet sits close beside it. One reviewer picked up a strong black pepper accent at the start that settles into iris with amber and vanilla. Sandalwood takes over in the drydown, leaving a gentle woody amber. Another found it warmer and less powdery than the name suggests.

About the original

Orris & Sandalwood joined Jo Malone London's Cologne Intense collection in January 2016. Trade press credits it to perfumer Pierre Negrin working with the brand's fragrance director, Celine Roux. Fragrance databases list it as a 2016 limited edition, but we have not found the brand describing it that way. It is no longer listed by Jo Malone London and is missing from the current Cologne Intense sets.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Jo Malone London stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Wearers drawn to iris and violet but wary of heavy powder may like its ambery, woody base. Reviewers suggest autumn and winter, though they consider it wearable in summer.
