Red Musk Oud

Red Musk Oud, inspired by The Body Shop Red Musk Oud (2015)

Red Musk Oud leads with cinnamon, and the tobacco beneath it adds a dry, leafy, faintly sweet depth. Musk sits beneath both notes and rounds out the texture. Further down, patchouli and cedar give an earthy, woody floor, while olibanum (frankincense) lays a resinous, slightly smoky line through the base. Despite the name, the published notes do not include oud, so expect spice and wood rather than an oud accord.

About the original

The Body Shop released Red Musk Oud around June 2015 as a special edition for Eid, a flanker of the Red Musk launched a year earlier. It was offered in an eau de parfum, an oil format and an eau de toilette, in selected markets only and not in the United States. Launch coverage described it as more intense than Red Musk and markedly different from it. As a limited edition it was not kept in the range.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not The Body Shop stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Fans of cinnamon-led scents will find the most to like here. It reads as rich and spiced, closer to a resinous wood than to a fresh musk. If tobacco or a hot cinnamon opening puts you off, the lighter Body Shop musks are a safer choice.

Notes: Cinnamon, Tobacco, Musk, Patchouli, Cedar, Olibanum

Cinnamon is the first thing you notice, with tobacco close behind, dry and slightly sweet.

The middle is spiced musk, fuller and darker than a white musk, with patchouli giving it an earthy weight.

Cedar and olibanum take over in the drydown, leaving a woody, incense-tinged trace on skin.

Does Red Musk Oud contain oud?

Oud is not among the notes published at launch. The character comes from cinnamon, tobacco, musk, patchouli, cedar and olibanum.

How is it different from the original Red Musk?

It was presented as a more intense and markedly different take on Red Musk (2014), built around cinnamon and tobacco.

Is The Body Shop Red Musk Oud discontinued?

It was a limited edition for Eid in 2015 and is no longer produced.

Is The Body Shop Red Musk Oud coming back?

It was a limited edition. So far, we have found no announcement from The Body Shop about a re-release. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
