Dead Dinosaur, inspired by Snif Dead Dinosaur (2022)

The gasoline accord is the whole point: an oily, solvent-like petrol smell, made without any real fuel, that is there from the first spray. Pink pepper and ginger add spice to it, and magnolia, orris and davana (a herb with a boozy, dried-fruit smell) slowly round off the edges. Cedar and peru balsam with amber woods give a resinous, woody finish that sits closer to a conventional spicy amber.

About the original

Dead Dinosaur was launched around October 2022 by Snif, a US direct-to-consumer brand, in its Secret Menu line of unconventional scents. Snif describes it as a spicy amber and sums it up as 'not a new car scent, but your first car scent'. The brand's own page calls it both an eau de toilette and an eau de parfum, and Ulta sells it as an eau de toilette. A car air freshener of the same name also exists, but this page refers to the perfume.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Snif stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Curiosity and a fondness for odd smells are the only real requirements. The petrol opening is deliberate and will put off anyone wanting a conventional, pretty perfume.

Does Dead Dinosaur contain real petrol?

No. The petrol smell comes from a gasoline accord built from perfume materials, not actual fuel.

Is this the perfume or the car air freshener?

The perfume. Snif also made a Dead Dinosaur car air freshener, which is a separate product.
