Tobacco Vanille, inspired by Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille (2007)

Tobacco Vanille opens on tobacco leaf and aromatic spice, dry rather than smoky. Within minutes vanilla and tonka bean fold in, joined by cocoa, and the scent turns rich and dessert-like. Tobacco flower sits in the middle beside them. Underneath, a dried-fruit accord and sweet wood sap add a dark, fruity depth that keeps the vanilla from feeling thin.

About the original

Tobacco Vanille was one of the twelve fragrances that launched Tom Ford's Private Blend collection in 2007, alongside Oud Wood and Tuscan Leather. It is usually credited to the perfumer Olivier Gillotin. Tom Ford calls it an opulent amber gourmand, and the 2007 launch text described it as a smooth oriental. The Eau de Parfum is still in the range, and the brand has since added a Tobacco Vanille Parfum as a separate edition.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Tom Ford stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

For vanilla lovers, the tobacco and spice here stop it from reading as pure dessert. It remains a sweet, heavy composition. Light, citrus-led scents sit at the opposite end of the spectrum, so wearers of those may find it too dense.

Is this based on the Tobacco Vanille Eau de Parfum or the Parfum?

Our eau de parfum takes the original 2007 Tobacco Vanille Eau de Parfum as its reference. Tom Ford's later Tobacco Vanille Parfum is a separate edition.

Quite sweet. Vanilla, tonka bean and cocoa dominate the heart, although the tobacco leaf and spice keep it from smelling like confectionery.
