Pasha de Cartier appeared in 1992, composed by Jacques Cavallier, the perfumer who would later make his name at Louis Vuitton. The brief was elegance and confidence, and what Cavallier produced was one of the most quietly distinctive masculine fougères of the 1990s. Mint and lavender carry the opening, sandalwood and oakmoss anchor the base, and rosewood, coriander, and an aromatic herbal accord knit the composition together. Cartier has reformulated and expanded the line over the decades, but the original character remains the reference point. How It Smells

The opening is crisp and slightly cool, mint and lavender working together with a green herbal lift from coriander. Within minutes the fougère structure emerges: rosewood adds a pinkish creamy lift through the heart, sandalwood begins to warm the base, and an aromatic herbal accord (artemisia, sage, and similar notes) gives the composition its characteristic dry character. The drydown is the perfume’s signature, an extended sandalwood with oakmoss and patchouli, slightly powdered, undeniably masculine in the classic 1990s sense, but refined enough to feel modern. It reads polished and grown up rather than overtly seductive.
