Chrome, inspired by Azzaro Chrome (1996)

Chrome opens on lemon and bergamot, cut with an aquatic accord that reads like cool water on skin. Oakmoss sits quietly in the middle, adding a faint green depth without making it mossy or old-fashioned. The base is mostly white musk, with cedar and yerba mate (a South American tea with a grassy, hay-like leaf) giving the woody-tea finish Azzaro describes. The overall effect is often likened to freshly showered, soapy skin.

About the original

Azzaro released Chrome in 1996, building the idea around the bond between a father and his son. Gérard Haury is usually credited as the perfumer, although Azzaro does not name one. The brand publishes only a loose description (citrus, white musk, aquatic and green touches, a woody-tea accord), so note lists online vary widely. Chrome Legend and Chrome Pure came later as separate flankers; this page follows the original eau de toilette.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Azzaro stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Men drawn to soap-clean, citrus-led scents tend to get on with Chrome. It sits on the light, transparent side, with almost no sweetness. Some find that cleanliness generic, likening it to shower gel, so it may disappoint buyers looking for depth or a distinctive character.

The first spray is citrus: lemon and bergamot, made watery and cool by the aquatic accord.

As the citrus fades, a green, faintly mossy note from oakmoss runs underneath and keeps it from becoming purely soapy.

The drydown settles into white musk and cedar, with yerba mate adding a dry tea-leaf edge and tonka bean a little roundness.

Is this based on Chrome or Chrome Legend?

Our reference is the original Azzaro Chrome eau de toilette from 1996. Chrome Legend and Chrome Pure are different flankers, and we make both separately.

Is Chrome sweet?

Not really. A touch of tonka bean rounds off the base, but the profile is citrus, aquatic and musky rather than sugary.
