Drunk Lovers, inspired by Borntostandout Drunk Lovers (2023)

The brand sums it up as brandy spilled on a wooden table, and that is a fair picture. Grapefruit, lemon and bergamot open it, with juniper adding a gin-like crispness and red berries a little fruit. The brandy note arrives soon after, rich and slightly sweet, spiked with pepper and ginger and given an aromatic lift by clary sage and cypress. Amber, cedar and sandalwood then settle the base with vanilla and benzoin, sweet but never sticky.

About the original

Drunk Lovers is a 2023 release from Borntostandout, an independent brand sold through its own site and niche perfumeries; new-release reviews appeared in June that year. It is usually credited to perfumer Hamid Merati-Kashani. The original is an eau de parfum. A separate Drunk Lovers Extrait Extreme followed with a different formula built on red wine, wine lees, leather and oud.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Borntostandout stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Boozy, woody and a touch gourmand, it suits wearers who enjoy liqueur notes but dislike heavy caramel. Vanilla and amber make it sweeter than a dry woody scent, which may not appeal to fans of crisp citrus or green fragrances.

Is this Drunk Lovers or Drunk Lovers Extrait Extreme?

The original Drunk Lovers Eau de Parfum from 2023. The Extrait Extreme is a different formula with red wine, wine lees, leather and oud.

Does it smell of alcohol?

It has a boozy brandy accord in the heart, rich and slightly sweet rather than medicinal. Woods and vanilla take over as it dries down.

How sweet is it?

Moderately. Vanilla, benzoin and amber sweeten the base, but cedar and sandalwood keep it woody.
