Vert Des Bois, inspired by Tom Ford Vert des Bois (2016)

Ouzo, the Greek aniseed spirit, is the first surprise: a spiked ouzo accord gives the opening a liquorice-like coolness against the green of poplar buds and olive leaves. It feels damp and mossy, like a forest floor after rain, with a prickly, pine-like edge. Then the mood darkens. Lentisque and cistus bring sticky resin, and oakwood absolute adds a smoky, bark-like depth.

About the original

Vert des Bois belonged to Les Extraits Verts, a group of green Private Blend scents launched in autumn 2016 with Vert d'Encens, Vert Boheme and Vert de Fleur. Reviewers have called it the darkest and boldest of the four. The note list here combines the American and British launch copy, which differed slightly. Tom Ford's official sites no longer list it and some retailers show it as unavailable, though we have found no brand statement.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Tom Ford stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Woodland greens with smoke and resin are its territory, and the anise accord at the start is distinctive. That liquorice-like opening is the main thing to be sure of, since some people dislike anise.

It is absent from the American and British Tom Ford sites, and some retailers show it as unavailable. We have not seen a brand statement, so this rests on its absence from the official range.

What does the ouzo accord smell like?

Like aniseed or liquorice, cool and slightly sweet. It is the first thing you notice in Vert des Bois.

How does it compare with the other Extraits Verts scents?

Reviewers have described it as the darkest and boldest of the four, with smoky woods and resin under its green opening.

Is Tom Ford Vert Des Bois coming back?
