Queening, inspired by Mind Games Queening (2023)

Queening opens on the smell of clean cotton, sharpened by cypress and a bite of apple. Orris, the powdery, slightly buttery note from iris root, soon takes the centre, with a little rum and saffron for warmth. The base is where the comfort comes from: whipped vanilla bean, fluffy musk and coconut. The overall effect is close to a soft blanket fresh from the dryer.

About the original

Queening was one of the four founding scents of the Soulmate Collection from Mind Games, launched in September 2023 with Ruy Lopez, Gambit and Sans Voir. It is credited to Christelle Laprade. In chess, queening means promoting a pawn to a queen. It is a different fragrance from Queenside, which belongs to the brand's Perfumer Extraordinaire collection.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Mind Games stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Cocooning is the word the brand uses, and it fits: the scent is powdery, musky and gently gourmand. Coconut and vanilla make it sweet in the base. Its orris and cotton powderiness will not suit everyone, especially wearers who find clean musks too sterile.

Is Queening the same as Queenside?

No. Queening (2023) is from the Soulmate Collection; Queenside is a separate scent in the Perfumer Extraordinaire collection.

Does Queening smell of coconut?

Coconut is in the base with vanilla and musk. It adds a gourmand roundness.

Is it powdery?

Yes. Orris and the cotton accord give it a clean, powdery feel.
