Liaisons Dangereuses, inspired by Kilian Paris Liaisons Dangereuses (2007)

Plum is the centre of gravity, dark and jammy rather than tart. Rose wraps around it, and blackcurrant buds add a green, leafy tang that stops the fruit going flat. Beneath them, ambrette seed (a plant source of musk with a skin-like, faintly pear-like smell) blends with vanilla and moss. Bois de Jasmin also picked up a green, coconut-like facet in the fruit.

About the original

It was one of the first By Kilian perfumes, launched in September 2007 in France and October 2007 in the US as part of L'Oeuvre Noire (Black Masterpiece). Calice Becker created it. The 2007 description spoke of Damascus plum, geranium, cinnamon, sandalwood and musk, while the current one names plum, rose, blackcurrant buds, ambrette, vanilla and moss, so the wording has changed and the formula may have too. Kilian still sells it as 'Liaisons Dangereuses, typical me' in The Narcotics.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Kilian Paris (formerly By Kilian) stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Bois de Jasmin judged it light enough for daytime wear. The fruit is sweet and jammy, yet rose and clean musk stop it becoming a dessert scent. Fans of plum in perfume, as opposed to peach or berries, get it centre stage here.

Plum and blackcurrant buds open it, juicy and a little green, with peach-like fruit around them.

Rose takes over in the heart, a stage Bois de Jasmin described as rose-geranium.

Does it smell of coconut?

Some writers notice a green, coconut-like facet in the fruity opening, but coconut is not an official note. Plum and rose dominate.

Is it very sweet?

It is jammy rather than syrupy. Rose and musk keep it fairly light.
