B*Men

B*Men, inspired by Thierry Mugler B*Men (2004)

B*Men starts with rhubarb, tart and faintly green, rounded off by fruity notes. Within minutes a dry wood takes over, built around sequoia and dusted with spices. The finish is amber and vetiver, smoother than the opening suggests and slightly soapy. Compared with A*Men it is lighter and easier to wear.

About the original

Mugler released B*Men in 2004 as its second superhero masculine after A*Men, in a metal flacon set with a red glass star. The concept drew on Thierry Mugler's childhood love of comic books, and the launch used a comic-book hero, with shampoo and deodorant alongside the eau de toilette. It is usually credited to Christine Nagel and Jacques Huclier. By 2011 a perfume blog was describing it as gone from shops, and it no longer appears in Mugler's men's range, which now centres on A*Men.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Thierry Mugler stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Its fruit-and-wood structure is unusual, sitting somewhere between a citrus freshener and a heavier gourmand. Some wearers notice a coffee-praline sweetness that recalls A*Men, which may not suit those who want a strictly dry woody scent.

Rhubarb leads the opening, with a sour, stalky edge that the fruity notes soften.

The heart is woody and spiced: sequoia wood gives a dry, slightly resinous feel, and the spices keep it lively.

Later it settles into amber and vetiver, a gently sweet, grassy-woody base.

Is Mugler B*Men discontinued?

It no longer appears in Mugler's men's range, and a perfume blog described it as unavailable by 2011. Mugler has not issued a statement we could find.

Is B*Men the same as A*Men?

No. B*Men (2004) is a separate fragrance built around rhubarb and woods, while A*Men is the earlier, heavier scent. We make both.

Is Thierry Mugler B*Men coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Thierry Mugler that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
