A*Men, inspired by Mugler A*Men (1996)

A*Men starts with lavender, and older brand descriptions add mint, a cool aromatic opening that contrasts with what follows. Patchouli arrives quickly, earthy and dark, and coffee absolute joins it to give the scent its roasted character. Vanilla rounds out the base, and Mugler files the whole thing under ambery woody gourmand. It is dense and openly sweet, with a woody backbone that stops it from feeling like a dessert.

About the original

Mugler released A*Men in 1996, four years after its women's Angel, and describes it as the first masculine gourmand. Jacques Huclier was the perfumer. Thierry Mugler drew on his love of 1950s American superhero comics and designed the metal and rubber bottle himself. It is still made, with flankers such as A*Men Pure Tonka and A*Men Fantasm.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Mugler stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Strength and sweetness are the two things to know before buying, and Mugler itself calls it bold and intense. Its density can feel overpowering to men used to light citrus colognes.
