Baby Doll, inspired by Yves Saint Laurent Baby Doll (2000)

Baby Doll opens with black currant and pineapple, a tart start with a sherbet-like fizz. Apple and orange keep that first phase crisp before rose and freesia move in, both pitched lightly. Heliotrope, a flower with an almond-like, powdery facet, gives the heart a gentle sweetness. Later the base turns to vanilla and tonka bean, held up by cedar and sandalwood so it never becomes sticky.

About the original

Ralf Schwieger and Cécile Matton composed Baby Doll for Yves Saint Laurent, which released it in 2000 as an eau de toilette. The composition pairs a fruit-heavy top with a gently sugared vanilla base. Several collector bottlings followed later in the decade, so vintage listings often show different bottles. Yves Saint Laurent no longer lists it, and its former product page has been taken down.

Our version

When we make it, ours will be an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It will not be Yves Saint Laurent stock, an official relaunch or the original formula.

Who it suits

Wearers who enjoy fruity florals with some sugar will find it easy to reach for, especially in spring and summer. It feels cheerful and youthful rather than formal. The vanilla and tonka drydown is noticeably sweet, which counts against it for anyone after a dry, grown-up floral.

Is Yves Saint Laurent Baby Doll discontinued?

It no longer appears in Yves Saint Laurent's range, and the brand's former product page has been removed. Yves Saint Laurent has not published a statement about it.

Which Baby Doll is this page about?

The original 2000 eau de toilette. Later collector and limited bottlings, such as Baby Doll Kiss & Blush, are separate releases.
