Girlfriend, inspired by Justin Bieber Girlfriend (2012)

Girlfriend leads with berries: blackberry and strawberry, with pear and mandarin to keep the fruit fresh. Vanilla is noticeable early, so the sweetness arrives before the flowers do. Orange blossom, jasmine and freesia blend into a rounded bouquet with a touch of apricot. The base of orchid, vanilla and musk is fuller than its teen marketing might suggest, and it dries towards a slightly woody finish.

About the original

Girlfriend was Justin Bieber's second women's fragrance, following Someday (2011), and launched in summer 2012. Elizabeth Arden acquired the Bieber fragrance licence in June 2012, just before the release. Now Smell This found it fuller and darker than expected for a scent aimed at teenagers. A flanker, Next Girlfriend, came later and is a separate fragrance.

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Justin Bieber stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Sweet-tooth wearers are its natural audience. The berries and vanilla dominate, and the base has some weight, so it is not a light fruity splash. Anyone hoping for a green or citrus-led scent should look elsewhere.
