Big Pony 2, inspired by Ralph Lauren Big Pony 2 for Women (2012)

Big Pony 2 leads with cranberry, tart and slightly sour, often likened to a berry medley or a cranberry cocktail. Mandarin, guava and raspberry pile in behind it, so the fruit feels mixed rather than single-note. Peony, lily-of-the-valley and magnolia keep a fresh floral layer in the middle. Later it turns candy-like, as tonka bean and vanilla meet musk and a touch of sandalwood.

About the original

Ralph Lauren released Big Pony 2 for Women in 2012 as No. 2 of the numbered women's Big Pony Collection, recognisable by the blue number on the bottle. A men's Big Pony 2 launched earlier, in 2010, in a red bottle, and it is an unrelated scent built on chocolate and musk. Our version follows the women's fragrance. Big Pony no longer shows in Ralph Lauren's current fragrance listings, though remaining bottles still turn up at discount retailers.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Ralph Lauren stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Sweet and fruit-led, it reads more playful than polished. The cranberry gives it a sour twist at first, and the drydown is sweet enough that anyone avoiding vanilla scents should look elsewhere.

Cranberry sets the tone with a sour-sweet tang, supported by mandarin, guava and raspberry.

Peony, lily-of-the-valley and magnolia sit beneath the fruit and keep it airy.

Tonka bean, vanilla and musk take over in the base, with sandalwood adding a little dryness to the sugar.

Is this the women's or the men's Big Pony 2?

The women's Big Pony 2 from 2012, with cranberry and tonka. The men's Big Pony 2 from 2010 is a different, chocolate and musk fragrance.

Is Ralph Lauren Big Pony 2 discontinued?

It no longer appears in Ralph Lauren's fragrance listings, although the brand has not published a date.

Does it smell sweet?

Yes, especially later on. The cranberry opening is tart, but the tonka and vanilla base is sugary.

Is Ralph Lauren Big Pony 2 coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Ralph Lauren that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
