Bois De Paradis, inspired by Parfums DelRae Bois de Paradis (2002)

Bergamot gives a brief lift before the scent settles into its real character: dry wood and dark blackberry, with an earthy, almost dirty edge to the fruit. Rose joins in, along with fig and cinnamon, so the heart feels spiced and shadowy rather than jammy. Cedar and balsam fir make the base resinous and a little piney, rounded out by amber.

About the original

Michel Roudnitska composed Bois de Paradis with DelRae Roth, founder of the Californian house Parfums DelRae, which worked with Roudnitska on all its fragrances. Most sources date it to 2002, though one gives 2005. In 2019 Roth announced the closure of Parfums DelRae after 19 years, as the business could not be sold to another company, and the house website no longer has a shop.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Parfums DelRae stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Despite the blackberry, it does not read as a typical fruity floral, which makes it a natural choice for people who usually avoid that category. The dry woodiness and spice can feel austere next to sunnier, sweeter scents.

Is Parfums DelRae Bois de Paradis discontinued?

Yes. Parfums DelRae closed in 2019, so the whole range, including Bois de Paradis, is no longer made.

Is Bois de Paradis a fruity floral?

Not in the usual sense. Blackberry and fig are there, but dry wood and spice dominate.

Is Parfums DelRae Bois De Paradis coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Parfums DelRae that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
