Black Vanilla, inspired by Mancera Black Vanilla (2017)

Mancera opens it with woods and amber before the vanilla settles in. Fragrance references give it a fruity start of white peach, blackcurrant, coconut and bergamot, before Mancera's own heart of Bulgarian rose, violet and jasmine appears. Violet brings a powdery, slightly candied tone. The base is Madagascar vanilla and white musk, sweet and smooth.

About the original

Fragrance databases date Black Vanilla to 2017 and credit it to Pierre Montale, Mancera's founder, though the brand names no perfumer. Mancera publishes only heart and base notes; the fruit opening comes from database listings. Some retailers place it in a Confidentiels collection, which the official site does not mention. It is a separate scent from Mancera's Velvet Vanilla, Royal Vanilla, Coco Vanille and Vanille Exclusive.

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Mancera stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Powder is the thing to know about. Vanilla fans who like a floral, faintly fruity sweetness will feel at home, while buyers expecting smoke, tobacco or a dark, boozy vanilla may be disappointed.

Is Black Vanilla a dark or smoky vanilla?

No. Despite the name it is sweet and powdery, with rose, violet and jasmine in the heart and vanilla with white musk in the base.

How is it different from Mancera Vanille Exclusive?

Both are Mancera vanillas. Black Vanilla has a violet and rose heart with a powdery feel, while Vanille Exclusive is lusher, with tuberose and a documented whipped-cream note.
