Colonia Quercia by Acqua di Parma

There’s a particular kind of fragrance that doesn’t shout — it presides. Colonia Quercia was that scent. Released in 2016 as part of Acqua di Parma’s prestigious Ingredient Collection as an Eau de Cologne Concentrée, this oakmoss-driven cologne took its name from the Italian word for oak, drawing inspiration from the ancient oak forests of Piedmont and the aristocratic families who walked beneath them.

The original 2016 Eau de Cologne Concentrée formulation has been discontinued and later replaced by a “Quercia Eau de Parfum” (2019, Signatures of the Sun line) with a different note structure. Fans of the original brown-bottle Concentrée now find it only on resale markets, with authentic bottles trading for €200–€400.

Our interpretation references the original 2016 formulation at €39 for a full 50ml of long-lasting Eau de Parfum.

The Story Behind the Scent

In Piedmont, oak trees are more than landscape — they’re inheritance. They mark estate boundaries, shade family gatherings, and live longer than any single generation. Colonia Quercia was Acqua di Parma’s love letter to that legacy: a fragrance built around oakmoss absolute, one of perfumery’s rarest and most expensive raw materials, sourced from the soft moss that grows on aged oak bark.

How It Smells

The opening is unmistakably Acqua di Parma: bright lemon, bergamot, and petitgrain woven with a soft prickle of pink pepper. What sets Quercia apart begins about twenty minutes in. Cardamom warms the citrus into something more complex. Geranium and Virginia cedar start to whisper underneath. And then the oakmoss arrives — earthy, slightly damp, deeply textural — pulling everything down into a base of patchouli and tonka bean absolute that feels almost photographic in its depth.

How Our Version Compares to the Original

We don’t claim this is identical — no dupe ever truly is. What we’ve built is a faithful interpretation of Quercia’s woody-spicy character: the same green oakmoss heart, the same warm spice-and-cedar transition, the same composed Italian elegance. Where the original was an Eau de Cologne Concentrée, ours is built as a true Eau de Parfum at up to 40% concentration. Six to eight hours of wear on skin, longer on fabric.

Who It’s For

Quercia is a thinking person’s fragrance. Restrained, deliberate, more autumn than summer. Wears beautifully to dinner, to the office, to any room where you want to be remembered without being announced. Skews masculine but reads as elegantly unisex on the right wearer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Colonia Quercia discontinued?

The original 2016 “Colonia Quercia Eau de Cologne Concentrée” from the Ingredient Collection has been discontinued. Acqua di Parma later released a “Quercia Eau de Parfum” (2019, Signatures of the Sun line) with different notes — fans of the original consider it a different fragrance.

What’s the difference between the 2016 Colonia Quercia and the 2019 Quercia EDP?

The 2016 original (in the dark brown bottle) was an Eau de Cologne Concentrée built around oakmoss and Italian citrus. The 2019 reformulation under the Signatures of the Sun line is an EDP with a different note structure. Our dupe references the 2016 original.

How long does this fragrance last on the skin?

Typically 6 to 8 hours on skin and noticeably longer on clothing. The Eau de Parfum format outperforms the original cologne concentrée on wear time.

Where can I find the original Colonia Quercia now?

Resale markets only. Authentic 2016 bottles in the brown Art Deco flacon typically sell for €200–€400.
