Blue Seduction

Blue Seduction, inspired by Antonio Banderas Blue Seduction for Women (2008)

Despite the name, Blue Seduction for Women plays it fresh and clean. Bergamot and violet leaves open with a cool, watery feel, and pear and melon add fruit that never takes charge. Underneath, a sweetish clean musk sets the tone, with a floral layer of gardenia, peony, rose and jasmine. It dries down on patchouli, benzoin and musk, still more crisp than heavy.

About the original

Banderas Perfumes, part of Puig, launched Blue Seduction for Women in 2008 as the counterpart to the men's Blue Seduction from 2007. It is usually credited to Olivier Cresp. Now Smell This found it sporty and invigorating rather than sensual, with fruit that stays in the background. Retailers now often sell it as Blue Seduction for Her, and it remains a different fragrance from the men's version.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Antonio Banderas (Banderas Perfumes, Puig) stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Someone who likes clean musk and sporty freshness is the natural wearer. The fruit and flowers are kept in check, so it feels light and athletic. One reviewer compared the opening to a fresh antiperspirant, and that clean, functional edge may not appeal if you prefer a romantic floral.

Bergamot and violet leaves give a crisp, watery opening, and melon and pear add a pale, fresh fruitiness. Raspberry gives a small flicker of colour.

The heart is a light mix of gardenia, peony, lily of the valley, Bulgarian rose and jasmine, kept sheer by the aquatic tone.

Benzoin brings a faint resinous sweetness, while patchouli and musk keep the base clean and dry.

Is this the women's or the men's Blue Seduction?

The women's, launched in 2008 and now often sold as Blue Seduction for Her. The men's Blue Seduction (2007) is a separate fragrance.

Is Blue Seduction for Women still made?

Whether Banderas still makes it is something we have not been able to confirm.

Is it sweet?

Mildly. The musk has a sweet, clean tone and there is some pear and melon, but the overall effect is aquatic and fresh.
