He Wood Rocky Mountain, inspired by Dsquared2 He Wood Rocky Mountain Wood (2009)

Pepper gives the first minutes a dry prickle, and violet sits just beneath it, cool and slightly powdery. Lily then opens out the middle, while incense adds a faint resinous smoke that never gets heavy. Virginia cedar, a dry, pencil-like wood, carries the base with vetiver, amber and musk. The overall shape is woody, but the flowers keep it from feeling dense.

About the original

Rocky Mountain Wood came out in 2009 as a flanker of He Wood, again by Daphné Bugey, under a 'Nature Always Wins' theme. Its bottle had a dark wooden frame with copper lettering. Other He Wood flankers include Ocean Wet Wood and Silver Wind Wood. Fragrance databases have listed it as discontinued, and it no longer appears on Dsquared2's site, although the brand has made no announcement.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Dsquared2 stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Next to He Wood, this is the version for someone who wants some spice and incense in the mix. Reviewers have described it as lighter and more floral than the original, so it will not suit anyone hoping for a dense, smoky wood.

White pepper and violet open together, dry and lightly powdery.

Lily brings a fresh floral note to the heart, and incense lays a thin resinous haze over it.

The base settles on Virginia cedar and vetiver, rounded off with amber and musk.

How is Rocky Mountain Wood different from He Wood?

Both are violet woods by Daphné Bugey, but Rocky Mountain Wood adds white pepper, lily and incense. He Wood is greener, with violet leaf and fir.

Is He Wood Rocky Mountain Wood discontinued?

It no longer appears in Dsquared2's range and is listed as discontinued by fragrance databases. Dsquared2 has not commented publicly.

Does it smell smoky?

Only slightly. The incense sits in the heart as a light haze, nowhere near a campfire note.

Is Dsquared2 He Wood Rocky Mountain coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Dsquared2 that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
