Parisienne, inspired by Yves Saint Laurent Parisienne (2009)

Dark berries come first, blackberry and cranberry with a tartness that keeps the rose from turning jammy. Running underneath is a vinyl accord, a slightly plastic, tea-like note that gives the start an unusual gloss. Damask rose, violet and peony take over as the fruit recedes. Later the mood turns dusky: musk, sandalwood, vetiver and patchouli, touched with powder and more clean than bold.

About the original

Sophia Grojsman and Sophie Labbé composed Parisienne, which YSL released in 2009 with Kate Moss in the campaign. The vinyl accord is its most unusual feature. A string of flankers followed, among them Parisienne L'Eau, À L'Extrême, L'Essentiel and Édition Singulière, so check that the original Eau de Parfum is the one you have in mind. The 2009 Eau de Parfum no longer appears on YSL's European or US websites. YSL's Paris (1983) and Mon Paris (2016) are separate perfumes despite the similar names.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Yves Saint Laurent stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Rose lovers looking for something less traditional may enjoy the berry and vinyl twist. Its texture is plush and gently syrupy, yet the base stays clean rather than heavy. The plastic nuance in the opening is unusual, and a few people may find it synthetic at first.

Opening: blackberry and cranberry, tart rather than sugary, alongside the vinyl accord that gives the start its gloss.

Heart: damask rose with violet and peony. Violet adds a faintly powdery, sweet-leaf tone that blends into the rose.

Drydown: musk, sandalwood and vetiver with a little patchouli, earthier and darker than the opening suggests but still clean.

Is this Parisienne the same as YSL Paris or Mon Paris?

No. This page is Parisienne from 2009, a berry rose with a vinyl accord. Paris (1983) and Mon Paris (2016) are different fragrances, and we make both.

What is the vinyl note in Parisienne?

An accord meant to recall polished vinyl, slightly plastic with a tea-like softness. It shows mostly in the opening.

Is it based on the Eau de Parfum or a flanker?

The original 2009 Eau de Parfum, not L'Eau, À L'Extrême or the other later versions.

Is YSL Parisienne discontinued?

The 2009 Eau de Parfum no longer appears on YSL's European or US websites, although YSL still lists it in some other markets.

So far, we have found no announcement from Yves Saint Laurent that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
