Play For Her, inspired by Givenchy Play For Her (2010)

Play For Her opens with a peppery fizz from pink peppercorns, softened at once by white peach and bergamot. Within minutes the fruit gives way to sweet pea and magnolia, with tiare, a Tahitian gardenia, lending a lightly tropical floral tone. Amyris, a pale wood with a gentle, slightly balsamic smell, runs through the composition. It closes on sandalwood and clean musk, staying light throughout.

About the original

Givenchy launched Play For Her in August 2010 as the feminine answer to Play, its 2008 men's fragrance. Emilie Coppermann and Lucas Sieuzac created it around amyris wood and tiare flower. Justin Timberlake and model Noot Seear starred in the campaign, and the pink bottle was styled like a portable music player. An Eau de Parfum Intense with orange blossom, tonka and patchouli came out the same year. Play For Her is no longer listed by Givenchy.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Givenchy stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Daytime wear, casual weekends and younger wearers are a natural match for this airy, sociable style. It is gently sweet from the peach, without heavy vanilla. Those looking for depth or a strong floral statement may find it too slight.

Pink pepper and white peach open it, lifted by bergamot so the fruit stays fresh rather than syrupy.

The heart is sweet pea and magnolia, with tiare flower giving a soft tropical tone and amyris wood keeping it smooth.

Sandalwood and musk form a clean, close finish.

Is Givenchy Play For Her discontinued?

It no longer appears in Givenchy's range and is widely reported as withdrawn. Remaining bottles turn up through private sellers.

Is it based on the regular or the Intense version?

The regular eau de parfum. Notes reported for the Intense include orange blossom, orchid, tonka bean and patchouli.

Is Givenchy Play For Her coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Givenchy that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
