Ricci Ricci, inspired by Nina Ricci Ricci Ricci (2009)

Rhubarb sets the tone from the first spray: sour, green and faintly fruity, sharpened by bergamot. The heart turns floral and much fuller, with centifolia rose, tuberose and datura, a night-blooming flower also called moonflower with a heady, slightly narcotic scent. Underneath, patchouli gives it the earthy depth of a chypre, the family built on a contrast between fresh top notes and a mossy or earthy base. Sandalwood smooths the edges.

About the original

Aurélien Guichard and Jacques Huclier composed Ricci Ricci, which went on sale in September 2009 in a bottle tied with a pink ribbon. Nina Ricci marketed it around an urban heroine character aimed at women aged 20 to 45. Flankers included Ricci Ricci Dancing Ribbon and an Eau de Toilette Florale, while Mademoiselle Ricci (2012) is a separate fragrance. Ricci Ricci is no longer listed in the brand's official range.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Nina Ricci stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Wearers tend to describe it as polarising: the rhubarb is sour and the patchouli dense, so it divides opinion. Review sites place it in autumn and winter. Someone looking for a gentle, sweet fruity floral will probably find it too assertive.

Is Ricci Ricci the same as Mademoiselle Ricci?

No. Mademoiselle Ricci (2012) is a separate fragrance. This page is the original Ricci Ricci Eau de Parfum from 2009.

What does rhubarb smell like in a perfume?

Sour and green, a little like crushed rhubarb stalks. Here it gives the opening its tart bite.
