L'Extase

L'Extase, inspired by Nina Ricci L'Extase (2015)

Pink pepper gives the opening a light, peppery fizz before the roses take over. Two varieties are named, Turkish and Bulgarian, and together they feel full and rounded, with white flowers adding a smoother layer. As it dries down the mood shifts towards benzoin, a resin with a vanilla-like sweetness, which amber deepens. Musk and cedar give the finish a dry, woody line under the sweetness.

About the original

Francis Kurkdjian composed L'Extase, which Nina Ricci launched in April 2015 with Laetitia Casta as the face of the campaign. The bottle took its cue from couture evening minaudières, the small jewelled bags carried at formal events. Launch press presented it as a more grown-up, sensual direction for the house and said the formula was kept secret. Flankers followed, including Rose Extase and L'Extase Caresse de Roses, and the original is no longer listed among Nina Ricci's fragrances.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Nina Ricci stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Evening wear in autumn and winter is how retailers position it. The rose sits on a sweet, resinous base, and some wearers find it sweeter than its theme suggests, which may not appeal to lovers of dry or green roses.

It no longer appears in Nina Ricci's official fragrance range and has been out of stock at large online retailers. The year it was withdrawn is not known.

Is this the original L'Extase or a flanker?

The original 2015 Eau de Parfum. Rose Extase and L'Extase Caresse de Roses are later, separate flankers.

How sweet is L'Extase?

Moderately. The roses are spicy at first, but benzoin and amber make the base sweet and resinous.

Is Nina Ricci L'Extase coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Nina Ricci that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
