Eau Du Soir, inspired by Sisley Eau du Soir (1990)

Eau du Soir begins dry and slightly bitter, with grapefruit and mandarin edged by pepper rather than sweet citrus. Seringa leads the heart; also called mock orange, it is a shrub whose white flowers smell somewhere between orange blossom and jasmine. Juniper and clove add a spiced, aromatic shade to the florals. The base is where it gains depth, oakmoss and patchouli joined by cistus, a resinous shrub with an ambery, leathery glow, and on skin the initial reserve gradually relaxes.

About the original

Eau du Soir was created in 1990 as Hubert d'Ornano's gift to his wife Isabelle, and it became Sisley's first women's fragrance. It is usually credited to Jeannine Mongin. Some sources date its public release to 1999, though most give 1990. Sisley describes it as an intense floral chypre with an ambery, enveloping character. Its stopper was designed by the Polish sculptor Bronislaw Krzysztof, and the house has issued several limited bottle editions without changing the fragrance itself.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Sisley stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Formal and reserved at first, it reads as aristocratic rather than friendly in the opening minutes. It is considered versatile across the seasons, and the oakmoss and cistus give the base depth. Buyers wanting something sweet or fruity will likely find it too dry.
