Wild, inspired by Dsquared2 Wild (2014)

Wild opens on cypress, a dry, evergreen wood, alongside two herbs: St John's wort and santolina, a silvery shrub with a bitter, camomile-like smell. The herbal freshness fades into resins and opoponax, a sweet relative of myrrh that smells balsamic and faintly incense-like. Underneath, labdanum and amber give depth, and a soil tincture adds the damp, earthy note behind the name. Despite the marketing, it wears clean and fairly linear.

About the original

Daphné Bugey and Annick Ménardo co-created Wild, released in 2014 and sold in the United States from around January 2015. Its black bottle came wrapped in a leather strap. Now Smell This judged the scent more conventional than the 'wild' branding implied. Fragrance references record it as withdrawn, and it no longer appears on Dsquared2's site.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Dsquared2 stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

The natural audience is men who like resinous, incense-adjacent woods without sugar or heavy smoke. The earthy base and bitter herbs will not appeal to anyone looking for a fresh citrus or a sweet amber.

Cypress leads with St John's wort and santolina, green and slightly bitter.

Is this the Dsquared2 Wild?

Yes, the 2014 men's eau de toilette in the black bottle with a leather strap. Several other brands have fragrances called Wild, which are unrelated.

What is soil tincture?

An accord meant to smell like damp earth. In Wild it gives the amber base its earthy, outdoor character.

Is it smoky?

Not strongly. Opoponax and the resins give an incense-like shade, but nothing like tar or burnt wood.

Is Dsquared2 Wild coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Dsquared2 that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
