Alexandria Ii, inspired by Xerjoff Alexandria II (2012)

Alexandria II starts fruity and spiced, crisp apple set against cinnamon, with lavender giving an aromatic, herbal lift. Rosewood, a pale wood with a rosy, faintly peppery smell, carries it into the heart, where Bulgarian rose and lily of the valley sit over cedar. In the base, Laotian oud is wrapped in sandalwood and amber, with musk and vanilla smoothing it out. The oud adds depth without dominating; woody and amber tones lead, with a powdery finish.

About the original

Xerjoff launched Alexandria II in 2012 as part of Oud Stars, its collection built around oud. Alexandria Orientale followed in 2018 and Alexandria III in 2019; there is also an Anniversary edition, and each is a separate fragrance. The composition is usually credited to Chris Maurice. A small extract and a hair mist carry the same name, but the reference here is the eau de parfum.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Xerjoff stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Rose and lavender give it a polished, powdery feel rather than a smoky one, which suits someone curious about oud but wary of its rawer side. The apple and cinnamon start reads faintly sweet, and the base is rich rather than airy.

How does Alexandria II differ from Alexandria III?

Alexandria III keeps much of the same structure but drops the apple and uses a blend of Thai and Laotian ouds, so the oud is more obvious and slightly animalic. Alexandria II is the smoother, more powdery of the two, and we make both.

Is Alexandria II heavy on oud?

Not especially. Oud is present in the base, but woody and amber accords lead with powder in the background, so it reads as a woody amber with oud rather than an oud showcase.
