Grand Soir, inspired by Maison Francis Kurkdjian Grand Soir (2016)

Grand Soir is amber in the classic sense: labdanum resin at the core, which smells leathery, sticky and slightly animalic. Lavandin, a hardier cousin of lavender, gives it an aromatic lift, and cinnamon leaf adds a spicy, clove-like glow rather than a baked-goods sweetness. As it settles, a vanilla amber accord and benzoin fill in the gaps, and the result is smooth, glowing and quite dense.

About the original

Francis Kurkdjian created Grand Soir in 2016 as one half of a pair with Petit Matin. The brand describes it as ambery and woody, and frames it around dressing up for a night out. It is an Eau de Parfum and remains part of the official range.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Maison Francis Kurkdjian stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Dressing up for the evening is exactly the brief the brand gave it. Its richness and vanilla sweetness make it heavy going for anyone who prefers airy, citrus or clean-musk scents.

Lavandin and cinnamon leaf open it, aromatic and spiced, with labdanum already showing through.

Cistus labdanum takes the centre, resinous and leathery, sweetened by the vanilla amber accord.

Benzoin carries the finish, balsamic and vanillic, like warm resin on wood.

What is the difference between Grand Soir and Petit Matin?

They were launched as a pair in 2016 and are separate fragrances. Grand Soir is the amber one this page is inspired by, and the brand frames it around evening wear.

Is Grand Soir sweet?

Moderately. The vanilla amber accord and benzoin make it sweet, but labdanum and lavandin keep it resinous rather than sugary.
