Sultan Vetiver

Sultan Vetiver, inspired by Nishane Sultan Vetiver (2013)

Vetiver runs through every stage, drawn from four origins (Java, Bourbon, Haiti and Brazil), each with a slightly different smoky, earthy or grassy tone. At the start, absinthe adds a bitter, herbal lift while bergamot and neroli freshen the edges. Schinus molle, the Peruvian pepper tree, brings a light peppery spice. Tonka and amberwood round off the middle, and leather gives the base a darker grain.

About the original

Sultan Vetiver is part of Nishane's Collection of Miniature Art and comes as an Extrait de Parfum. Nishane presents it as aromatic, woody and ambery, made for vetiver lovers. A fragrance database lists 2013 as its launch year, though the brand has not confirmed this, and no perfumer is confirmed either.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Nishane stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

As Nishane suggests, vetiver devotees are the target. It is dry, earthy and woody with an ambery depth underneath, and the absinthe opening is bitter. A wearer looking for a sweet or citrus-led vetiver may find it too austere.

No. This page is inspired by Nishane Sultan Vetiver. Our product called Sultan (M) refers to a different fragrance by Arabian Oud.

How does it differ from a classic citrus vetiver?

It layers four vetivers with absinthe, amberwood and leather, so it is darker and more ambery than a crisp, citrus-led vetiver.
