Black Mango, inspired by BORNTOSTANDOUT Black Mango (2025)

Black Mango begins with ripe, almost syrupy mango and a squeeze of orange oil. The heart is its most unusual part: a mango-lassi accord, like the Indian yoghurt drink, blended with Bourbon vanilla and tolu balsam so the fruit turns milky and rounded. Over time the sweetness thins and oud, leather and cypriol take over, giving a smoky, leathery finish. Sandalwood smooths the very end.

About the original

BORNTOSTANDOUT, a niche house founded in Seoul in 2022, released Black Mango in its Extrait Extrême collection alongside Black Guava. The 2025 date comes from retailer launch coverage rather than the brand. Violaine Collas is credited as the perfumer. It is a different scent from Jo Loves A Shot of Oud over Mango and from Vilhelm Mango Skin.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not BORNTOSTANDOUT stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

People who enjoy milky, dessert-like fruit but want a grown-up base will get the most balance from this one. The lassi and vanilla make the middle quite sweet. Leather and smoke in the drydown could put off anyone after a purely fruity mango scent.

Is Black Mango the same as Jo Loves A Shot of Oud over Mango?

No. They are separate fragrances from different houses. Black Mango adds a mango-lassi and vanilla heart and a leather base.

Does Black Mango smell like yoghurt?

There is a lassi accord in the heart, which reads as milky and rounded rather than sour. Vanilla keeps it on the sweet side.
