Bitter Peach

Bitter Peach, inspired by Tom Ford Bitter Peach (2020)

Bitter Peach starts with peach at its ripest, close to syrup, cut by the tang of blood orange and a touch of cardamom. Rum and cognac come in early alongside davana, a herb whose oil smells fruity and slightly boozy, so the fruit seems to sit in a glass of liqueur. Labdanum and styrax add a resinous, amber depth underneath. Over time the peach fades into a smooth sandalwood and vanilla base.

About the original

Tom Ford launched Bitter Peach in October 2020 as part of Private Blend, in 50, 100 and 250 ml eau de parfum. Pêche de vigne (vine peach), Sicilian blood orange, Indonesian patchouli and davana oil infused with rum and cognac were named as the key ingredients. Launch press described it as sweet and sensual, with pronounced woody and resinous undertones. It arrived in the same year as Rose Prick and remains in Tom Ford's range.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Tom Ford stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

It reads as a rich, dessert-like fruit scent rather than a crisp orchard peach. Admirers of boozy fruit such as Lost Cherry will recognise the territory. The sweetness is pronounced from the first spray, which can be too much for someone after a crisp or tart fruit note.

The top is peach and blood orange, with cardamom and heliotrope adding spice and a faint almond-like powder.

Rum, cognac and davana make up the heart, along with a little jasmine, giving the fruit its liqueur feel.

The base is long and resinous, with sandalwood, patchouli, labdanum, benzoin and styrax softened by tonka and vanilla, plus cashmeran and a thread of vetiver.

Is Bitter Peach actually bitter?

Not much. The peach is ripe and sweet; the darker side comes from the rum, cognac and resinous base notes.

Does Bitter Peach smell boozy?

Yes. Rum and cognac sit in the heart, and davana adds a fruity, liqueur-like quality.
