A Shot Of Oud Over Mango, inspired by Jo Loves A Shot of Oud over Mango (2012)

Mango arrives first, ripe and juicy, but black pepper gives it a dry, spicy edge almost immediately. Freesia adds a light, peppery floral note in the middle. Oud wood then darkens the composition from below, so the fruit sits over something smoky and resinous. The Non-Blonde described the result as mango playing light against shadow, with a touch of incense at its core.

About the original

Jo Malone created it for Jo Loves, the London house she founded after leaving Jo Malone London. It launched in 2012 as an eau de parfum in the Mango Collection, alongside Mango Nectar and A Shot of Thai Lime over Mango, and was sold at first only through joloves.com. The collection is said to have been inspired by Jo Malone watching cocktails being mixed at the Four Seasons in New York. A Shot of Oud over Mango no longer appears in the Jo Loves range; the brand's current related scents are Mango Thai Lime and the limited Pomelo Oud.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Jo Loves stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Compared with its Thai lime sister, this is the darker, moodier member of the mango trio. The oud and pepper give it more weight than the fruity opening suggests. Its woody base may feel heavy to a buyer after plain tropical fruit.

Is Jo Loves A Shot of Oud over Mango discontinued?

It no longer appears in the Jo Loves fragrance range, and we found no brand statement about it. Mango Thai Lime is the only mango scent Jo Loves currently sells.

How is it different from A Shot of Thai Lime over Mango?

Both start on mango, but this one turns to black pepper and oud wood, while the Thai lime version goes green with kaffir lime, mint and vetiver. We make both.

Is this a Jo Malone London scent?

No. Jo Malone made it for her later house, Jo Loves, not for Jo Malone London.
