Mula Mula, inspired by Byron Parfums Mula Mula (2018)

Caramel leads, sticky and golden, with peach, strawberry and raspberry piled on top so the start feels like a fruit dessert. Ginger and pink pepper then cut through with a spicy tingle. Labdanum, a resin from the rockrose shrub, brings a darker, leathery sweetness to the heart. Vanilla and musk smooth the base, while oud and patchouli add a darker undertone.

About the original

Mula Mula comes from Byron Parfums, the Paris niche house Yann Derriennic founded in 2016, and is generally dated to 2018. It belongs to the brand's Narcotique collection and has spawned several flankers, among them Rouge Extrême, Double Caramel and Art Deco. Our reference is the original version. Byron Parfums sells it as an extrait de parfum.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Byron Parfums stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Sweetness is the point here, and there is plenty of it. Gourmand lovers who enjoy caramel and fruit with spice and wood underneath are the natural audience. Wearers who find sugary scents cloying should approach with care, since caramel and fruit lead and vanilla carries the sweetness into the base.

How sweet is Mula Mula?

Very sweet. Caramel and red fruit dominate the opening and vanilla carries that sweetness into the base, though ginger and oud add contrast.

Does Mula Mula contain oud?

Yes. Retailers specify Laotian oud, which sits in the base with patchouli, vanilla and musk as a dark undertone beneath the sugar.
