Nur, inspired by SoOud Nùr (2010)

Nùr opens with lemon and incense, a bright-meets-smoky pairing, with artemisia and chamomile adding a herbal, faintly honeyed bitterness. Amber and iris root then build a pearly powder, apricot lending fruit and cedar some dryness. The base brings Russian leather and Madagascar vanilla over musk, so the finish is both sweet and a little hide-like.

About the original

Stéphane Humbert Lucas created Nùr as one of eight scents that launched the French niche house SoOud in 2010, developed with Intertrade Europe and first sold in Germany. The brand explains that the name means light in Arabic. Its launch material described it as a dry balsam, a pearly, powdery amber. The blogger Persolaise felt it edged towards a 1970s aldehydic, milky floral. SoOud now sells it as L'Eau Fine, an eau de parfum, alongside a Parfum Nektar and Nùr Nektar d'Or.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not SoOud stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Sweetness and density are what divide opinion. Now Smell This found it a heavy, sweet floral with a feminine lean, so it suits people who like powdery ambers with a vintage flavour. Lovers of light or citrus-fresh scents will find it too much.
