Silky Woods, inspired by Goldfield & Banks Silky Woods (2021)

Cinnamon and peach make an unexpected start, spicy and fruity at once. Tobacco leaf comes next with a dry, hay-sweet tone, and ylang-ylang lends a buttery floral note beneath it. The base pairs agarwood (the resinous wood behind oud) with vanilla, and the vanilla tames the wood into something smoky and smooth. The brand's own description also mentions suede, saffron, incense and sandalwood in the background.

About the original

Silky Woods launched in 2021 as the first fragrance in the Goldfield & Banks Botanical Series. Its agarwood comes from plantations in the Daintree region of Queensland. The brand credits perfumer Hamid Merati Kashani, with Dimitri Weber as creative director, and labels it an eau de parfum, although some retailers sell it as a parfum or extrait.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Goldfield & Banks stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Oud beginners are a good fit. The oud is gentle and sweetened by vanilla, so it may disappoint anyone hoping for a raw, barnyard-style agarwood. Tobacco and cinnamon are both present, which some people find too spicy.
