Amber Wood, inspired by Ajmal Amber Wood (2014)

Amber Wood starts with a crisp apple accent, quickly spiced by cardamom and white pepper, while lavender adds a herbal, faintly clean note. Orris then brings a dry, powdery texture, like the inside of a wooden box, and cedar sharpens the frame. The base is a smooth amber wood with patchouli, more polished than smoky. It stays well balanced between fruit, spice and timber throughout.

About the original

Ajmal released Amber Wood in 2014 as one of three woody scents in its W Series, alongside Hatkora Wood and Santal Wood, first sold through Gulf duty free shops. A flanker, Amber Wood Noir, followed later and is a separate fragrance. Ajmal's own listings now give a slightly different note list from the launch material; the copy here follows the 2014 pyramid. Retailers disagree on its gender, and it is commonly sold as unisex.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Ajmal stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Retail descriptions place it in the evening and in autumn and winter. It feels rounded and spiced rather than sugary, though the apple top may seem too fruity to anyone after a purely dry wood.

Does it smell of apple?

At the start, yes. The apple fades behind cardamom, orris and cedar within the first stretch of wear.
