Tobacco Honey

Tobacco Honey, inspired by Guerlain L'Art & La Matière Tobacco Honey (2023)

Tobacco leaf and honey lead together, the honey drawing out the sweeter side of the leaf while the tobacco itself stays dry and hay-like. Clove and anise add spice, and sesame brings an unusual toasted, nutty note. Vanilla and tonka bean fill out the middle. In the base, sandalwood and agarwood (another name for oud) leave a smoky, woody finish that recalls a cigar.

About the original

Guerlain added Tobacco Honey to L'Art & La Matière in 2023 and presented it at The Connaught in London that summer, according to Beauty Bible. Guerlain's own product page credits Delphine Jelk, although at least one press report names Thierry Wasser. The house describes it as an amber-woody tobacco in which honey brings out the leaf's warmth. It is a different scent from Absolus Allegoria Tabac Sahara, another Guerlain tobacco.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Guerlain stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Evening is where it fits most naturally, given how sweet, spiced and smoky it is. Its honey is pronounced, which may be too much for buyers who prefer a dry tobacco.

How does Tobacco Honey differ from Tonka Impériale?

Both combine tobacco, honey and tonka. Tobacco Honey adds sesame, clove and agarwood, while Tonka Impériale (2010) opens with rosemary and bitter almond and is no longer listed by Guerlain.

Guerlain credits Delphine Jelk on its product page. Some press coverage names Thierry Wasser instead.
