La Tulipe by Byredo (2010)
Released in 2010 and crafted by perfumer Jerome Epinette, Byredo La Tulipe was inspired by the tulip’s fleeting beauty and the way it captures spring in a single bloom. Built around rhubarb, cyclamen, tulip, freesia, vetiver, and woody notes, this composition translates the unscented tulip flower into perfume through Epinette’s signature interpretive approach.
Our interpretation captures the same refined spring floral signature as a long-lasting Eau de Parfum, made in the EU.

The Tulip Challenge
Real tulips are almost completely unscented. Jerome Epinette’s challenge was to capture what the tulip evokes rather than what it literally smells like: spring rain, fresh green stems, the cool crispness of cut flowers in a vase. The result is a refined fresh floral that captures springtime feeling through rhubarb’s slightly tart sourness, refined cyclamen, and a tulip accord built from scratch.
How It Smells
The opening is immediately fresh and slightly tart with juicy rhubarb laced by delicate cyclamen creating an unusual green introduction. There is an instant sense of niche refinement, fresh without being aquatic.
The heart introduces the soul of La Tulipe: a custom tulip accord paired with refined freesia, creating a delicate floral bouquet that captures spring in a bottle. The dry-down settles on dignified vetiver and clean woody notes. A base that lingers on skin for hours with refined, slightly powdery, springtime elegance.

Top: Rhubarb, Cyclamen
Heart: Tulip, Freesia
Base: Vetiver, Woody Notes
How Our Version Compares
Our interpretation captures the rhubarb-cyclamen opening, tulip-freesia heart, and warm vetiver-woods base that defines La Tulipe. Built as a long-lasting Eau de Parfum at up to 40% concentration, typically 6 to 8 hours on skin, longer on fabric.
Common Questions
Do real tulips have a scent?
Most tulip varieties are nearly unscented. Jerome Epinette had to construct the tulip accord from imagination, capturing the feeling of a tulip rather than its literal scent. The result is one of the most refined fresh florals in modern niche perfumery.
Is La Tulipe office appropriate?
Yes. Its refined fresh floral character makes it ideal for professional environments and daytime wear.
How long does this fragrance last on the skin?
Typically 6 to 8 hours on skin, longer on clothing.
When is the best time to wear La Tulipe?
Spring especially. Year round wearable as a refined daytime fragrance.
