Red African, inspired by Al Haramain Red African

Bergamot gives a short citrus lift before jasmine comes through, floral but not heady. Vanilla and musk then take over and carry the rest of it, rounded and sweet. The jasmine stays in the background, so it never reads purely as confectionery.

About the original

Al Haramain sells Red African as an oil and markets it as unisex. Its own listing gives a short note list: bergamot at the top, jasmine in the heart, and musk and vanilla in the base. The house also sells a women's eau de parfum called Signature Red, which is a different scent.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Al Haramain stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Vanilla lovers are its natural audience, since the musk and vanilla base does most of the work. That sweetness dominates the drydown, which may put off a buyer who avoids sweet scents.
