Feve Delicieuse, inspired by Dior Fève Délicieuse (2015)

Tonka bean sits at the centre: a seed that smells of almond, hay and toasted sweetness at once. François Demachy wanted it sweet but never cloying, so the vanilla is cut with a bitter, slightly smoky tone and a little Calabrian bergamot at the start. Caramel and praline shadings come through as it settles, yet a dry, faintly boozy undertone remains. The drydown is mellow tonka and golden amber.

About the original

Dior added Fève Délicieuse to La Collection Privée Christian Dior in April 2015, built by Demachy around Venezuelan tonka bean absolute and Madagascar vanilla. It no longer appears in the current collection on Dior's UK, Swiss, Portuguese or US sites, though an old product page with earlier bottle sizes remains online. Dior has not published a statement about it, and no withdrawal date is known.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Dior stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

It is aimed at people who find straight vanilla too sugary: the bitterness and light smoke give it a grown-up edge. Still, it is unmistakably sweet, and the caramel tone may be too much for wearers who avoid dessert-like scents.

The opening is slightly boozy and anisic, with bergamot giving a brief citrus lift above the tonka.

In the heart tonka bean absolute takes over, smelling of almond, hay and a touch of caramel, with praline listed by some sources.

The base settles into vanilla and amber with a little smoke and woods, sweet but never sticky.

Is Dior Fève Délicieuse discontinued?

It has been withdrawn from Dior's La Collection Privée range, although Dior has made no announcement.

What does tonka bean smell like?

Sweet and nutty, somewhere between vanilla, almond and fresh hay. In Fève Délicieuse it is the main note.

Is it very sweet?

It is clearly a gourmand, but Demachy gave it a bitter, slightly smoky edge so the sweetness does not become cloying.

Is Dior Feve Delicieuse coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Dior that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
