A pear accord with green mandarin and lemon starts things off, fruity and citrusy. Orange blossom then joins the coffee accord that runs through the Black Opium line, and a marshmallow musk accord settles over both, airy and powdered like spun sugar. Bourbon vanilla and patchouli anchor the base. Press coverage has called it a sweeter twist on the original.

About the original

YSL's full name for it is Black Opium Eau de Parfum Glitter. It reached US shops around the end of 2024 and Europe in January 2025, with Zoë Kravitz as campaign face. It is a separate fragrance, not the original Black Opium in a decorated bottle: the silver glitter covers the bottle only, around a pink window, and YSL says the liquid contains none. Older glitter-bottle collector editions of the original eau de parfum are a different thing, as is Black Opium Over Red. YSL positions it as a night scent, 'between false innocence and ultra sexiness'.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Yves Saint Laurent stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Sweetness is the deciding factor. Buyers who already find Black Opium too sweet will likely find this one more so, while fans of marshmallow and vanilla gourmands should get on with it well. YSL presents it as an evening and night fragrance.
