Lily Of The Valley, inspired by Yardley Lily of the Valley (1920 (original); current Contemporary Edition 2015)

Pear gives the opening a watery, gently sweet fruitiness. Lily of the valley then takes the lead, green and dewy with a soapy cleanness, joined by freesia, which adds a peppery, airy floral note. A plain musk base keeps everything light. It is uncomplicated and fresh, more a clean floral than a perfume with deep layers.

About the original

Yardley's Lily of the Valley goes back a long way, with perfume databases dating it to 1920. In 2015 the brand reformulated it as the Contemporary Edition, with pear, freesia and musk and, according to Yardley, 95% natural ingredients. That modern version is what Yardley still sells, and the one this product is inspired by. Older bottles are often remembered as greener. Penhaligon's also made a Lily of the Valley, which is a different fragrance.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Yardley stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Spring mornings and anyone who likes a fresh, lightly soapy floral will get on with it. It is gentle and uncomplicated, so admirers of rich, layered florals may find it too plain.
