Olivier Polge’s 2022 sparkling rose chapter from Les Eaux de Chanel. Lemon, lime and pink pepper over damask rose and a soft polished patchouli. Rebuilt at 40 percent perfume oil.
The Sixth Chapter of Les Eaux
Les Eaux de Chanel is the house’s collection of fragrances inspired by the cities Gabrielle Chanel travelled to and loved. Paris-Biarritz, Paris-Deauville, Paris-Venise, Paris-Edimbourg, Paris-Riviera, and finally in 2022, Paris-Paris, the chapter dedicated to the city itself. Olivier Polge composed it as a sparkling damask rose framed by lemon, lime, pink pepper, and a soft patchouli base, intending to capture the spirit of Paris on an early morning walk with sunlight catching the city’s stone facades. It is lighter than the main Chanel feminines and more accessible than Les Exclusifs, an in-between collection designed for daily wear. Our interpretation respects that bright modern character.
How It Smells
The opening is bright and slightly tart, lemon and lime giving immediate citrus sparkle with pink pepper adding a quick spicy edge that distinguishes Paris-Paris from simpler citrus florals. Within ten minutes the heart appears, and the perfume reveals its identity: damask rose dominates, rendered as fresh and slightly dewy rather than jammy and warm, with the citrus opening still threading through the early heart. The base settles on patchouli rendered as polished and modern rather than earthy heavy, with a soft musk smoothing the drydown. The overall impression is a light, modern rose, suitable for daytime and casual wear, with enough patchouli depth underneath to keep it interesting.
The Notes
Top: lemon, lime, pink pepper, citruses.
Heart: damask rose.
Base: patchouli, musk.
How Our Version Compares
Paris-Paris is technically an eau de toilette in its original form, which means the original runs lighter and shorter than a typical eau de parfum. Our European Union interpretation rebuilds the same character at 40 percent perfume oil concentration, extending the rose patchouli heart well beyond what the original eau de toilette delivers. The damask rose holds longer, the patchouli base lasts through the day, and the bright lemon lime opening sparkles cleanly.
Common Questions
How does it compare to other rose patchouli fragrances?
Lighter than most. Where modern niche rose patchouli compositions go dense and intense, Paris-Paris keeps things sparkling and daytime. If you want a bigger rose patchouli statement, look elsewhere. If you want a polished accessible version, Paris-Paris is well calibrated.
Is it unisex?
Officially feminine but reads quite unisex thanks to the citrus and patchouli framing. Many men wear Les Eaux de Chanel scents regardless of marketing positioning, and Paris-Paris works particularly well for that.
What occasions does it suit?
Daytime, office, weekends, casual evenings. The polish makes it versatile, the lightness makes it inoffensive. It is not an evening statement scent.
How long does it last?
Six to eight hours at our concentration, with the patchouli musk drydown lingering as a soft skin scent. Significantly longer than the original eau de toilette format.
