X Classique

X Classique, inspired by Jean Paul Gaultier Classique X (2010)

Mandarin and bergamot open it with a citrus fizz close to a cologne. Orange blossom follows, paired with peony so the heart stays light. The base is a delicate iris and vanilla blend: iris adds a dry, cosmetic powderiness and the vanilla only a little sweetness.

About the original

Gaultier released Classique X as an eau de toilette in December 2009 in the US and March 2010 in Europe, inspired by its Fall/Winter 2009-10 ready-to-wear collection and sold in the frosted torso bottle with an X motif. Trade press at the time called it a third pillar of the Classique range. Later variants, including L'Extrait Classique X (2010), a 2012 eau de parfum and Classique X L'Eau (2012), are different compositions. No perfumer is reliably credited for this version.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Jean Paul Gaultier stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Its freshness, close to a cologne at the start, makes it a daytime scent. Devotees of the original Classique may find it too restrained.

Is this the Classique X eau de toilette or eau de parfum?

This page is inspired by the original Classique X eau de toilette from 2010. The 2012 Classique X Eau de Parfum is a different, richer composition with raspberry and rose.

How does it differ from Classique?

It is lighter and fresher than Classique, almost cologne-like at the start, with peony beside the orange blossom. We also make a version inspired by Classique.

Is Jean Paul Gaultier X Classique coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Jean Paul Gaultier that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
