A Scent, inspired by Issey Miyake A Scent by Issey Miyake (2009)

A Scent is clear and spare. Lemon verbena and Amalfi lemon give a cool, herbal citrus start, and galbanum, a resin that smells like crushed green stems, adds a bitter edge. Hyacinth brings a watery, green floral tone, with jasmine kept in the background. Virginia cedar dries it down to a clean pencil-shaving woodiness.

About the original

Daphné Bugey composed A Scent for Issey Miyake, launched in August 2009 and billed as a tribute to the poetry of minimalism, with Japanese mountain air as its inspiration. An Eau de Parfum and flankers such as Florale and Soleil de Neroli followed. It is unrelated to A drop d'Issey, which the brand sells today. The original Eau de Toilette is not listed in Issey Miyake's current women's range, and retailers describe it as discontinued.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Issey Miyake stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Its natural audience is the wearer of green fragrances such as Chanel Cristalle, a scent it is often compared with. It suits spring and summer days. The galbanum and verbena are bitter and grassy rather than sweet, which some will find austere.

Is A Scent the same as A drop d'Issey?

No. A Scent is the 2009 green citrus floral by Daphné Bugey. A drop d'Issey is a separate, newer fragrance.

Has Issey Miyake discontinued A Scent?

It is no longer listed in the brand's women's range and is reported as discontinued. The year it was withdrawn is not documented.

Does it smell like Cristalle?

The two are often compared because both are green, dry citrus florals. A Scent is more transparent and grassy.

Is Issey Miyake A Scent coming back?
